FAQ and troubleshooting

Why can't you edit a course?

Course opened by another member, missing edit rights, Guest role, read-only platform: the causes and the solutions.

In FAQ and troubleshooting

You can see the course, but its fields are greyed out and the Publish button is unavailable? The course is read-only for you. Check the causes below, in order.

Is someone else editing the course?#

Only one person at a time can edit a course's content. If someone has already opened the Edit training tab, a window tells you so: "First name Last name is editing the training". You can view the content, but not edit it.

  • Wait: editing becomes available again on its own as soon as that person leaves the tab.
  • Or ask them to leave the Edit training tab.
  • If the message is "Your training is already open in another tab", close your other tab.

This lock only applies to the Edit training tab. See Saving and editing with others.

Are you a Trainer without edit rights?#

A Trainer can only edit the courses on which they have edit rights. Being an author of the course is not enough.

Ask an Administrator, a Content manager or a Trainer who has these rights to add you in Settings › Trainer access rights › Edition rights. See Trainer rights on a course.

Are you a Guest?#

A Guest views the courses they have access to, without ever editing them. To edit, you need another role, given by an Administrator from Admin. This role uses a creator seat. See Roles and permissions.

Is the platform read-only?#

A banner at the bottom of the screen says so, for example "The platform is read only. Contact the account owner." Nothing can be edited any more, most often for a billing reason. Contact an Administrator of your platform: they are the one who takes the steps needed to restore access. See Why is your platform read-only?.

Is an import or a generation in progress?#

While a PDF is being imported or AI generation is running, the course cannot be edited. Wait until processing is finished. While the AI regenerates a slide's visual, that slide also stays locked.

Other cases#

  • The course does not appear in Trainings: you have no rights on it. Ask for read or edit rights.
  • In the Access tab, the boxes are greyed out: only Administrators and Content managers assign a course to teams.
  • None of these situations applies: reload the page. If the problem persists, write to support with the Help and support form.
